2010 was a very successful year for the Wamba Education Project. Not only did a lot of great activities take place in this year (for more information on the Wamba-Party, flea markets and the event “Studis drehn am Rad” see this blog), but the project also made great success with finishing parts of the project:

Willam und Teresia graduated in December 2010!

We give our warmest congratulations, wish them all the best for the future and hope we can stay in contact!

As a financial help to start from, we gave them a small amount of money with which William can travel back to his former school to manage remaining issues while Teresia can start looking for a job. In return we will request a small report on their life and studies in the last two years, which will be published here when received.

Alice will be continuing her “Community Health and Development” studies this year, despite her illness in summer/autumn last year, she just started her third year of studies and should be able to finish her studies in July 2012.

Financial overview

All in all, we gave 6813,31 Euros to our three Kenyan students, which until now enabled two of them to finish their studies. We want to thank everyone who made this possible!
For Alice’ further education approximately 1250 Euros are still needed. At the moment, there are 780 Euros left at the Wamba account, so we will need 500-600 Euros in addition. The money now available will suffice to support her for this year.

Next activities

As already mentioned, another Wamba-Party might be coming up and should be planned in the next weeks, further information will be available here.

WEP IS ONE YEAR OLD

The Wamba Education Project is already one year old. This noble project has seen three students enter higher Institutions of learning. Here are the profiles of the three students benefitting from the efforts of the Wamba Education Project.

Alice Abong

She is studying at the Kenya Institute of Applied Sciences, situated in Eldoret. She is taking a Diploma in Community Health and Development. The course takes two years, that is six semesters. Alice has already completed two semesters. This means she remains with four semesters to complete her course. Alice shall be completing her course in May 2011.

Alice is a devout student, who makes good use of her time for her studies. She really appreciates the effort being made by the German Students and all the well wishers who are working day and night to see to it that she remains in school to study.

Teresa Lemalasia

Teresa is studying at the Tracom College in Nakuru. She is taking a Certificate Course in Catering. Teresia has already gone half way the course, and she is to finish studies in June 2010, then she goes for attachment. The school is engaged in various activities including educational trips to various towns of the country, to enable the students get enough experience regarding the course each one is taking. If she succeeds in her certificate course, she would be glad to continue and get a diploma in Catering. That is her wish.For now, she is so busy concentrating on her studies in Nakuru, and is very appreciative for the Sacrifice already made by the German Students who helped to open her eyes by offering her a chance to pursue her education.

William Essunyen

William is studying at Maralal Catholic Technical Training Centre. He is taking a course in Carpentry. William’s course takes two years, and he has already completed one year, remaining one year to complete his course. William should finish his course by December 2010. He is very optimistic and dedicated in his studies.

A WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT

As the person in direct contact with these students, I would like to thank all those who have helped us achieve what we have already achieved in the year 2009. This noble project has been a success, from the contribution, both material and other forms of support, from various people. We highly appreciate your efforts, and encourage you not to give up.
The students benefitting from this noble project are so happy to back in school, and I, on their behalf, have to say a big THANK YOU for all your efforts. As we begin the new year 2010, we look forward to see this project move towards its success, with some of the students completing their courses.
To all those who continue to support this noble project, may the Almighty God bless you in this new year.

Review: Dies Academicus, December 2009

Like at the Dies Academicus in summer, we again had a stand at the main building of the University of Bonn and offered warming drinks as well as cake and information about the project.

Dates: Africa-Day, Dies Academicus und Nikolaus-Market

The next weeks we have quite a few activities in and around Bonn.

Tomorrow, october 21, on the Africa-day at the “Book Fair Migration” in Bonn we will present our project!
On december 2, Dies Academicus takes place again. Of course, we will be there to offer you coffee and cake and inform you about the project at our cosy stand.
On december 5 and 6 you will find us at the Nikolaus-market in Remagen. Join us and get yourself a cup of hot wine!

Another thing is, that we are currently updating the section about the students because it happend quite a lot since we began the project and want to keep you informed where the money is going we collect! Check out the student’s page later!

Review: Flea market in october

Also the second flea market was a success for our project. Thanks to our experiences from last time, we could reserve a very nice place for our stand. A lot of old stuff from cellars had been sold and some people were also interested in the project itself. It was also the last flea market at Rheinaue for this year.

Thanks to everybody who supported us and also a to the team that made the stand possible.

Here are two pictures from our last fundraising event yesterday at the flea market at the Rheinauen in Bonn, what was a great success, something we will do again for sure in the near future. Thanx to our crew, which spent the whole night there to be the first to provide our stuff and information about the project to the people at the flea market.

Review: Stand at DIES Academicus

On May 27 Dies Academicus took place at the University of Bonn and we used the opportunity to inform the visitors about our project. We offered coffee, cake and postcards for a small donation and told those who were interested about our excursion and who we meet Alice, Teresa and William. Without the efforts of almost everybody from our group this success would not have been possible.

We would like to thank those who helped us by giving a donation and for the attention they paid to our efforts!

dates: 22/07/09 BGG-presentation ‘Kenya’

We will do a bigger presentation about Kenya on the 22nd of July at the Institut of Geography at the University of Bonn under the programme of the BGG to inform you a bit more about problems and possibilities in Kenya, the daily life down there and also present you the WEP at the same time. The presentation will be for free, donations are welcome (as always…).
